Vivitar 200mm f3.5 Auto Telephoto – Canon FD

This telephoto lens has really gotten the job done for me with long range shots as well as fudging it into the macro range. My favorite feature is by far the integral retractable shroud. As someone who started out on at most 50mm film and then plastic lenses on DSLRs, this lens is heavy, but boy is it worth it. This lens is truely my got to for those long rang shots

This Vivitar is serialized as 28636120 which, if it follows the Vivitar S/N standard, breaks down to:

  • 28, manufactured by Komine Co., Ltd.
  • 6, manufactured in 1976 or 1986, would be ’86 in this case
  • 36, manufactured in the 36th week of the year, which would be September 1st to September 7th if in 1986
  • 120, manufacturing sequence

This lens is of the first gen “Chrome Nose” style of FD mount, but without the chrome nose part due to it being made by Vivitar. I have determined this by the green “o” AE indicator and the lack of lock open on the breach ring. See my post on the 50mm f1.8 to learn more about FD mounts.
